Desheng Wang, Ph.D., P.E.
Director of Engineering Services

Desheng Wang, Ph.D., P.E.As a Hydraulic and Environmental Engineer, Dr. Wang has over a decade of experience in the U.S., China, and Sweden. He has a B.S. in Hydraulic Engineering with Honors, an M.S. in Hydraulic Engineering with Honors, a Licentiate/M.S. in Environmental Planning and Design, and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

He is a Certified Soil Evaluator in Massachusetts, a Certified Wetland Scientist in New Hampshire, and is certified for Wildlife Habitat Evaluation for federal projects. The focus in his career has been hydraulics and environmental engineering, specializing in physical and computer modeling of rivers including sediment transport, local scour, flood control, flow under ice, thermal modeling, and pollutant transport. He is experienced in wetland delineation, hydric soil identification, urban hydrology, groundwater recharge, and flood control, including Best Management Practices for stormwater quality control related to urbanization and land development.

He has designed and retrofitted stormwater BMPs and flood controls for more than 120 subdivisions and commercial sites involved with wetlands, floodplain, and riverfront issues. He has investigated and modeled more than 30 rivers and streams regarding their hydraulic and morphologic conditions for planning, restoration, and management purposes. He emphasizes strategic planning, a flexible approach, first hand investigation, and knowledge integration to achieve overall project efficiency.

Dr. Wang is a reviewer for the ASCE Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, Journal of Hydrodynamics, Sediment Research, and the Journal of Hazardous Materials. He has authored and co-authored 11 peer-reviewed technical journal papers in river modeling, oil spill simulation, sediment transport, and local scouring around bridge piers and abutments. He has also authored and co-authored 19 conference papers and presented results of his work at national and international conferences. He has been present at numerous public hearings as an expert. He has experience as an expert witness pertaining to river flooding, groundwater impacts, basement flooding, and swimming pool drainage.

Dr. Wang has developed computer models to simulate/calculate river hydrodynamics, sediment transport, hydrograph and flood routing, groundwater mounding and infiltration, water budget in watersheds, and pollutant removal rates for stormwater management facilities.

He has been a guest speaker to the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Municipal Engineers Association, and the Society of Military Engineers on stormwater BMPs and integrated river restoration. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section / ASCE, the National Ground Water Association, the Association of Massachusetts Wetland Scientists, and the Chinese Society of Hydraulic Engineers.
